My van

My camper van is small, so I can use it as a regular vehicle. it as turned from a commercial van to a camper van by Ara Rentals in Christchurch. I loved the way they did it, and that it had been done by an ‘ordinary’ person, rather than a factory refit sort of person.

I have been upgrading it since I got it. It is now the proud wearer of solar panels, I’ve changed on bed into a cabinet and widened the remaining bed. I’ve to magnetic blinds now, and (whew) they worked really well.

I mostly do small trips. Last summer I went down south to joinery daughter and her family for Christmas, which strained the old van considerably and it had a short stint on the back of a truck from the Lindis Pass to Omarama. Got me safely home via Motueka and Tapawera.

The portable gardens worked really well until I ran them over. The plastic containers held together with cut tape were not so easy to lift and carry and the parsley didn’t really recover until I got home.

It was handy having a place to tip the water when I drained the sprouts, or cooled cooking water,  never like tipping those nutrient rich things into the waste tank.
